Destination Profile
Spiti Valley Motorcycle Expedition - The Himalayas Before They Get Discovered
The Experience
Spiti is a high-altitude cold desert between 11,000 and 15,000 ft (3,353 and 4,572 m), where road quality changes repeatedly through a single day.
What makes Spiti different from Ladakh is scale: a concentrated river valley where villages like Losar, Kaza, Chicham, and Kibber are close enough that local life is visible within minutes of arrival.
The route we run does not stay in the main valley. It climbs up Pin Valley to Mud village (13,480 ft / 4,109 m), reaches Demul (14,500 ft / 4,420 m), and times Chandratal before day traffic arrives.
Why This Route?
Because the standard Spiti circuit covers the obvious highlights and then exits. We run that and then go further: Pin Valley to Mud village, Demul, and the high tracks above Kibber.

Common Questions
What is Spiti like compared to Ladakh for motorcycle touring?
Spiti is lower and more concentrated than Ladakh, with longer off-road sections and thinner support infrastructure. Ladakh has bigger scale; Spiti offers sustained technical riding.
What are Spiti water crossings actually like?
Typical crossings between Losar and Batal range from 20 cm to 60 cm depending on season and temperature. We brief crossing technique before the first section.
